Your donations will help The Loop fund a new lab for our drug checking and testing.

This summer, The Loop is launching Test & Know, our biggest ever fundraising campaign. We're aiming to raise £25,000 to fund a mobile drug checking lab — allowing us to expand our life-saving work all year round, across more locations in the UK.

Why now?

This year we’re set to deliver more regular drug checking services than previous years, often operating multiple mobile labs at different events on the same night. But the need is growing, and we need more labs and more community support.

We’re asking you to donate what you can, whether that’s £12 to ‘pay it forward’ and cover the cost of testing one substance, or more if you're able. Every contribution helps reduce risk and save lives.

What we do

The Loop is a not-for-profit harm reduction organisation providing:

  • Drug checking at festivals, clubs and city centres

  • Early warning systems and real-time alerts on dangerous or mis-sold substances

  • Tailored harm reduction advice

  • Training and education informed by our in-house research

We work with event organisers, public health teams and the police to reduce drug-related harm and keep people safer on nights out.

In 2024, The Loop became the first charity in the UK to be granted a Home Office licence for drug testing.

Why it matters

Drugs in the UK are getting stronger and more unpredictable. Our drug checking identifies high-risk trends and substances in circulation - including potent synthetic opioids like nitazenes or high-strength MDMA tablets - and enables us to issue rapid alerts to protect the public.

Every time someone checks their drugs with us, they receive personalised harm reduction advice. Many choose to dispose of their drugs after hearing the results. Others adjust dose or timing based on what they’ve learned. This informed choice saves lives.

What you’re funding

Your donations will help us build a new mobile lab, including:

  • FTIR spectrometers to identify substances

  • Fentanyl and nitazene test strips to detect dangerous opioids

  • Photography kits to document pills for public alerts

  • Laptops and software to log and process samples securely

  • Reagents, safety gear, analysis tools and more

We also want to expand our monthly city-centre front-of-house drug checking (where people bring in their own substances to be tested and discussed confidentially) to more UK cities in 2025. This lab will help us do just that.

A note on costs

£25,000 covers the full setup cost of one new Loop lab — but every single donation helps.

  • £12 tests one sample.

  • £50 supports training for a new Loop volunteer.

  • £100+ helps fund the technology needed to keep our services running safely.
